Airport Traffic Pattern Size Limitations
Established for Landing Events
at SAFECON 2010

Monroe, LA - Traffic pattern size limitations will be enforced at SAFECON 2010 in the landing events.  Any contestant who flies outside the established maximum limits shall incur the appropriate penalty.   Any aircraft following a plane that exceeds the established limits may be given another approach and landing as compensation.  The decision to grant an additional approach will be made by the event judge, based on his/her estimate of the impact of the infringing aircraft's pattern on the any trailing aircraft.    The following limits will be enforce during the landing events.

Upwind:  No defined limit, but recommend following the AIM suggestion of beginning turn to crosswind when within 300' of pattern altitude.   NIFA Rules require a minimum of 400' AGL before turning crosswind.

Crosswind:  Not an issue, this gets restricted by the proposed downwind limitation below.

Downwind:  Should be flown no more than 1/2nm away from the runway centerline.  Penalty would be assessed if aircraft exceeds 3/4nm away from the runway centerline.

Base:  Should be flown no farther than 1nm away from the threshold of the runway.  Penalty would be assessed if aircraft exceeds 1 1/4nm away from the runway threshold.

Final:  Not an issue, this is restricted by the proposed base limitations above.
