Proposed By-Law Change To Be
Considered At Annual Business Meeting

Monroe, LA - As a result of the dwindling number of schools submitting bids to host the national SAFECON, the NIFA Executive Committee has proposed the following by-law change. The change will be considered during the annual business meeting, at SAFECON 2008, on May 9th in Smyrna, Tennessee,

11. NATIONAL INTERCOLLEGIATE SAFECON

11.3.   The number of teams allowed to compete in the National Intercollegiate SAFECON shall be determined by the Executive Committee by majority vote with the final number to be specified as soon as possible. This number shall not be less than twenty five invited teams.

11. NATIONAL INTERCOLLEGIATE SAFECON

11.3.   The number of teams allowed to compete in the National Intercollegiate SAFECON shall be determined by the Executive Committee by majority vote with the final number to be specified as soon as possible. This number shall not be less than twenty five invited teams, unless the facilities at the schools submitting a bid to host the national SAFECON cannot accommodate the minimum of twenty-five. In such a case, the minimum number is to be set by the Executive Committee.

Rationale

As fewer and fewer member schools submit bids to host national SAFECONS, NIFA is finding itself repeatedly in the position of searching for a single volunteer member school to host SAFECON. By allowing the executive committee to set the number of invited schools at a level appropriate for the available facilities (when necessary), NIFA may be able to avoid the undesirable decision of not having a SAFECON, due to a lack of space. In addition, NIFA can open the possibility of hosting a national SAFECON to of some of our member schools who would not otherwise have an opportunity to host.

Teams not attending the annual business meeting may submit an absentee ballot or proxy. All ballots and proxies must be recieved at the national headquarters office no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 25,2008. Absentee ballots and proxy forms will be mailed to all member schools prior to all member schools on or before April 9th, 2008.
